WELCOME:

Welcome to the Basque country.  Visitors to only ask little of your time so that you know a little the reality that is not counted neither in great mass media nor in the agencies of tourism, on our country.

The Basque Country is a country located in the southwest of Europe between the states Spanish and French, under the administrations of these same states by the force and without considering the opinion of the Basque citizens. The Basque Country consists of 7 provinces: Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, Araba, Nafarroa behera, Nafaroa Garaia, Zuberoa and Lapurdi. The four first territories under the Spanish dominion and the three rest under the French.

The capital of the Basque Country is Pamplona and the language of the Basque country is the Euskera (Basque language), an pre-Indo-European language whose origin is not known.

A little history:

The Basque country is one of the few original and indigenous towns of Europe, that takes from the prehistory living in these territories and conserving its identity and culture against the different attacks that have suffered throughout all the history, on the part of the Romans, of the troops of Carlomagno, the kingdom of Castile, the states Spanish and French…

In year 602 in the high average age the duchy of baskonia is created and in year 824 the kingdom of Navarrese is created, that was the first Basque state that maintained during centuries its sovereignty.  In 1200, Castile I conquer the territories of Bizkaia, Araba and Gipuzkoa, by means of the force. In 1512 Castile it conquers Navarre and in 1610 it falls under the power of France Behe Nafarroa. Since then until the days of today the fight by the national and social liberation of our country has been a constant.

Situation nowadays:

Nowadays it follows the fight for a democratic process that ends the political conflict that as much suffering brings and so that the right of self-determination of the Basque country is clear, without forgetting the national construction and the fight by independence. 

We cannot either forget the social liberation and the construction of a system completely opposed the Capitalism that brings to us: speculation, labor uncertainty, unemployment, corruption, destruction of our nature, racism, sexism…

What we offer to you:

The Basque country is a country that offers endless of possibilities and an impressive wealth: cultural, landscaping, sport, gastronomic… San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the gorbea, all the coast from Biarritz to Muskiz, the suspension bridge of Portugalete and the one of Holtzarte in Zuberoa, the nacedero of nervion… is not more than examples than you can visit. Also you will be able to enjoy our gastronomy and impressive products: codfish to the pil-pil or the bizkaina, intxaur-saltsa, a good cutlet.

After eating or nothing better than a little rural sport Basque stone rise, aizcolaris… or a good party of ball hand in the fronton.  You also prefer if it you will be able to enjoy our folk music and to enjoy with our instruments of music.

The Basque country is one of the oldest towns of Europe than it conserves his identity, its language and its culture for centuries, without refusing never to introduce new customs, traditions and cultures that can enrich ours whenever it is not by the force and without losing ours. We less want to be neither the more nor than nobody, we only want to be and to live in freedom next to the rest of countries and towns of the world.
